Friday evening we all met up at a picnic spot in Russian Gulch State Park. Here's a video of the picnic area and the folks having fun. Picture taken on : Fri Aug 5 18:08:44 PDT 2005
One cool thing you could see from the picnic site is a bridge that highway 1 crosses. Underneath is a sandy beach and a river outlet. Another neat thing is the small boat... a scuba-diver was there. It's pretty popular for them to dive for Abalone (sp?), which is like a large clam. Picture taken on : Fri Aug 5 19:17:06 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

One of the things Russian Gulch is famous for is a large blowhole that is a couple hundred feet inland from the beach. From what I read, basically water eroded it's way a tunnel through the rock to get to this place. They say when the sea is really choppy or stormy water plunges upwards in a large spray here. We were fortunate that wasn't the case here. Picture taken on : Fri Aug 5 19:29:36 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

Jason and Beth hanging out on the rocks. I forget the name of the young girl in the picture, she's the one who kept talking about her boyfriend throught the weekend. I guess she reeeeely likes him. :) Picture taken on : Fri Aug 5 19:47:08 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

Here's another funky tunnel that the ocean has eroded through the rock. Picture taken on : Fri Aug 5 19:47:50 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

Luke, Teresa, and Shirley walking around on the rocks. Teresa was an awesome sport. She came to the picnic wearing heels. She hiked down to the beach with the heels, and took them off and walked in socks around on the rocks. These rocks aren't very smooth, there's lotsa jagged edges! I don't think I would have walked around in socks on that stuff. Neato. Picture taken on : Fri Aug 5 19:48:16 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

Jesus had a hat accident... the wind blew it off and into the sea. Actually, when Jesus wasn't looking, Josh quickly cloned an evil version of Jesus, and pushed the good version into the sea. The hat was the only thing left of the good Jesus. Well, OK, I lied. But anyway, it's a picture of the hat in the ocean. Picture taken on : Fri Aug 5 19:52:28 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

A video of some of the fun we had wishing Jesus farwell after his accident. :P Picture taken on : Fri Aug 5 19:53:16 PDT 2005
We had too much fun with Jesus's hat. Another video. :P Picture taken on : Fri Aug 5 19:53:44 PDT 2005
On saturday Annie and I went down to Mendocino to check it out. After walking around the town for a while we went down to the beach by the river outlet. Picture taken on : Sat Aug 6 12:45:50 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

Now it's my turn for a beach shot. Somehow I wound up looking pretty dorky in this picture. I'm going to have to practice looking more like James Bond (er, something). Picture taken on : Sat Aug 6 12:46:28 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

Lisa and I decided to go with a squirrell theme for the wedding. Mainly because we figured it would be fun to remind them about their evil garden moochers. :P The card I found purely by accident... I never expected to find a card with squirells on it. But the little figurenes were on purpose. That was a byproduct of looking around in the shops around fort bragg on friday. Normally I think those little tourist shop things are boring. But since we had a "mission" to find squirrels, it wasn't bad at all. :) Oh, the figurenes I snuck up onto the head table before they got there. It was funny looking at their faces as they were confused as to why they were there. I guess I've now "blown my cover" with this paragraph. Kevin, Sarah, hope you enjoyed it! Maybe you can put the figurenes into your garden and it'll scare away the squirrels, because they'll think they'll shrink if they eat any of your veggies. The Boquet Toss video. Josh thought the girl who caught it was 15. She overheard him talking tho and she told him she was 21. So he was much more comfortable after the next event... Picture taken on : Sat Aug 6 22:41:06 PDT 2005
The Garter Toss video. Josh and Eahab were all over this. It's pretty confusing, but Josh winds up with it in the end. :) Afterwards he slipped it onto the boquet-catcher-girl's leg. With his teeth. :P Picture taken on : Sat Aug 6 22:44:44 PDT 2005

A few things going on in this picture. For one, Luke is dancing with a cutie. He got her number at the end of the night. Go Luke! The second thing, which is pretty humorous... look where everyone's hands are. Yeah, that's right... it looks like Shirley and Eahab are playing a game of grabass on the dancefloor! :P Picture taken on : Sun Aug 7 00:07:08 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

On sunday the contingent of folks who didn't ride horsies for $45 went up to Glass Beach, which is in Fort Bragg. The story about Glass Beach is that about 50 or so years ago it was actually a garbage dump! A lot of glass was dumped into the ocean. Nature is a cool thing tho... the action of the waves smoothes the edges of the glass over time. The result is a lot of very pretty pieces of rounded edge glass. Anyway, when we started out there we climbed around on a bunch of rocks (which is always fun). Towards the end a lot of us were crouched down on the beach looking for interesting pieces of glass. :P This picture is of Josh looking especially cool on a rock. Later on sunday we went to Van Damme State Park (hopefully no relation to Jean Claude Van Damme) to see the Pygmy forest. The Pygmy Forest is a funky miniatureized forest. It's caused by a very acidic soil barrier that doesn't allow trees to put their roots very deep. This basically stops their growth. If you cut one of these trees open, you'd see many very tiny growth rings. Beth seemed to like them. :) Picture taken on : Sun Aug 7 15:04:42 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |
|
After we looked at the Pygmy forest, we took a hiking trail down to the Little River. On the way we had a blast. Here, Craig found a Joint Tree. It basically had some bark comming off of it that looks exactly like a joint! Wacky. Picture taken on : Sun Aug 7 15:05:58 PDT 2005 640x480 image full image |

A video of Josh and Luke going at it with their wooden sabres. Use the force, Luke! Picture taken on : Sun Aug 7 15:23:46 PDT 2005
More WoodWars. I guess this forest is a Jedi training ground. Picture taken on : Sun Aug 7 15:24:32 PDT 2005
Luke, going tree climbing. Picture taken on : Sun Aug 7 15:30:06 PDT 2005
Josh, never to be outdone, decided to pass up Luke on the tree. Teresa's comments are pretty hilarous here. :) Picture taken on : Sun Aug 7 15:31:22 PDT 2005 |
